connection before correction

Being a parent to children who experience special circumstances can be difficult, confusing, frustrating, and isolating.

trauma informed

parenting

Trauma impacts all aspects of the family system and can include guilt, shame, and disconnection. In this training, we will cover:

  • How trauma impacts brain development

  • Processing associated sense of responsibility

  • Learning how trauma impacts family system and individual roles

  • Building a toolkit for reconnection

parenting

neurodivergent children

It’s very easy to have a lot lost in translation between neurotypical and neurodivergent family members. This training will:

  • Help differentiate between executive dysfunction and perceived unwillingness

  • Provide “translation” exercises to help with understanding where the gaps in understanding exist

  • Build family exercises in perspective shifting and redefining risk/reward thinking

processing

adoption trauma

Adoption is often the final scene of the movie we see, but it rarely shows the reality. Support diminishes, resources are more scarce, and we are expecting happily ever after. This training will:

  • Discuss how adoption in and of itself is traumatic, and deserves acknowledgement and processing

  • Normalize and process grief and attachment complexity

  • Explore individualized strategies to help children stay connected to their family of origin and/or communities of origin
